She was told among other things that she was reported by someone on LJ and that she will have an FBI record for life (I can attest to that). For a clear exposition of the fact, I urge you to read her full post.
The original post was a mock-prayer to God in response to Bush's comment that he could feel it every time Americans prayed for him. I jokingly prayed for an aneurysm, and invited the "prayers" of others. I can see how it was misconstrued as a threat, and I took the post down because, well, others DID share their prayers and I don't want the FBI investigating them, too. If it were just my words, I'd be more than happy to let the thing stand as a good example of what NOT to say on the Internet. ;)
oh, what the fuck ever, you can't will someone to death. That's not a fucking threat at all. You can also legally hope that someone dies, so what the fuck is going on.
I'm so sorry this happened to you (BTW I came by way of pinkfinity). Perhaps the Secret Service should investigate PAT ROBERTSON, who (according to Al Franken's show), asked his followers on the 700 Club to PRAY FOR THE DEATHS OF SUPREME COURT JUSTICES. Presumably they didn't mean "their" justices, like Rehnquist, Scalia and Thomas, but those awful LIBERAL justices like Stevens and Ginsburg.
Sometimes I wonder why George Orwell doesn't just jump out of his grave and LAUGH at the United States :(
no. people should be allowed to say that and whatever they want, on the internet or in real life. if we all say it, they'll have fbi files on everyone on lj, but so what? praying for an aneurysm is not the same as saying, "hey everyone, lets go do x y z to bush" --
Praying for an aneurysm is NOT a threat against somebody's life, for Pete's sake, and I DON'T understand how they can read it that way. Your comprehension of their "concern for the President's life" is a supreme act of charity on your part.
I don't know where to begin with commenting on this. My gob has rarely been more smacked. I'm not sure I'm going to list all the varied ways in which I might be on someone's list, cos someone might check.
I was seriously worried that I'd be questioned when I entered the States because of my colouring and the fact that I have an Arabic stamp in my passport. But then I thought, don't be mad. That's telly USA not real USA. Real countries don't act like that. I think I'll revise that opinion.
I will say it's kinda lucky he can only feel the prayers of Americans. That lets the rest of us pray in peace.
I pray that every US citizen, on my list and off it, gets to the polls and puts their X in a box. Don't leave your say up to someone else.
So you weren't stopped? Because my sister is as white as white can be, but she gets pulled aside all the time with her boyfriend when traveling between the US and the UK (and vice versa), and he's an American citizen. He was born here. But he has dark coloring and his last name is Mohammed, and, yeah. Not just TV America there.
The blame lies with Annie for saying such over the top things to begin with (someone took a screenshot of it --not me! -- which you can read here, and with the asshat who reported her, not with Bush or the Secret Service. You know I hate Bush's guts, but this would have happened no matter who was in office. It's not Orwellian. It's the Secret Service's job.
What I see as the real issue is the problems it will cause her in the future. You're right. The SS should look into things but when found to be non-threatening her life should not be put in a file. Her life is basically under suspect till she dies. She may be put on the no-fly list, if she voices an opinion again and some other jerk-off takes offence, she'll get another visit...and more paper for her file. The problem is that she will always be suspect from here on in and that is not right. Investigating is what should be done but even when that is over your life is no longer really free. They can do just about anything to her now because she was once deemed a ‘threat’ of some nature. And that, is very wrong.
Unfortunately once you have a file, that's it. Even if she went to court and were able to get this sealed, I doubt that it would ever be. I hear these things and I keep going back to Hoover.
